That starts off well. Just in time for the beginning of the year, it was time for our young residents to start the eagerly awaited “HOLIDAY PROGRAM”.
That means 4 days of adventures, new experiences, fun, joy, culture and a lot of lightness. On Tuesday, January 07.01.2020th, 10, we set off for the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main. Equipped with breakfast and a lot of discovery, around 7 residents between the ages of 14 and 113, accompanied by full-time employees Constanze Zimmermann and Shiraz Maysum, set off for the Main metropolis that morning. Enthusiastic about the natural history collections in the large, XNUMX-year-old museum, our young residents spent an informative and beautiful day and learned a few things in one place or another.
In the evening, tired and exhausted from our shared experiences, we were already looking forward to the next day. On the following day, the CFEE common room, where homework help usually takes place, was supposed to celebrate its premiere as a small but fine cinema. Equipped with food and drink, the Pixar film “Everything is Inside Out” was shown on the premiere afternoon. The animated film is about a girl who has to move to a new place and is so unhappy there that her emotions take on a life of their own. After the film, the young film critics reflected on it together with the facility management and discussed the topic of emotions.
The following Thursday, we had our first external visitor. Philipp Uhl, who also volunteers for our daily homework help, prepared an exciting and informative day for the children on the topic of "Children's rights - what am I actually allowed to do and what am I not allowed to do?" In this third part of the program, the young participants were supposed to look at the extensive topic of "rights" from a playful and at the same time informative perspective. The aim of the seminar was to remove a thematic hurdle for the young people and to sensitize them in general to their rights and the responsibilities that go with them.
At the end of the first holiday project week of 2020, things got creative again and the facility was again visited by designer/illustrator and psychologist Anastasia Loladze. Creative processes that had begun in previous days of action were continued together, but the first sketches for the “Comic by Chance” were also created. The comic is about each participant choosing two objects from their world thematically and then letting these two fictional protagonists tell a story through images. This comic is, on the one hand, about developing ideas and working creatively, but also about telling something about yourself and your world and at the same time developing a feeling for empathizing with others. This creative and colorful day rounded off the first holiday program of 2020 and marked the end of a lively and wonderful week for many people involved.
